Wood plastic composites (WPC) are defined as composite materials that contain thermoplastics and wood in various forms. From decking and cladding to fencing and garden furniture, WPC additives provide these applications with a long life span and minimal maintenance, giving advantages over solely wood-based materials.

The limited thermal stability of wood means that processing temperatures cannot be increased above  200°C and only plastics that can be processed below this temperature can be used e.g. PE, PP and PVC. This, therefore, makes the extrusion process slow.
